02.01.2007 - A 29-year-old New Orleans police officer hired a little more than a year ago was arrested Tuesday in Jefferson Parish and accused of an undisclosed type of sexual assault on his young stepdaughter, according to New Orleans police sources. The name of the officer was not disclosed by police. The Times-Picayune obtained it through two law-enforcement sources, but is withholding it so as not to identify the victim. The officer resigned from the Police Department on Wednesday, police spokesman Sgt. Joe Narcisse said. He was being held in the Jefferson Correctional Center on Wednesday night on $250,000 bond on a charge of aggravated incest, according to prison records. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Harry Lee declined to release information about the allegations, out of concern for the victim. "It's a sensitive matter," Lee said. New Orleans police said the officer was in a recruit class that was discontinued when Hurricane Katrina struck, but resumed later. Police sources said the accused was a 7th District officer before he resigned. New Orleans police referred all questions about the investigation to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, which in turn referred them back to the New Orleans Police Department. The incident occurred at a residence in Jefferson Parish, the sources said. www.nola.com/news/t-p/frontpage/index.ssf?/base/news-19/117031866720570.xml&coll=1
