07.14.2006 - A suspended Santa Barbara County sheriff's deputy charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl while on the job had his bail reduced Thursday from $500,000 to $375,000. Jon Charles Holm, 31, of Santa Maria remained in San Luis Obispo County Jail late Thursday. He is being held out-of-county for his own safety, officials said. Holm pleaded not guilty Tuesday to five counts of sexually assaulting the teen, now 16 and living in North County, between Nov. 8 and Dec. 15. Superior Court Judge James Iwasko reduced the man's bail during a Thursday hearing in Lompoc so it would conform with similar cases statewide. California law recommends $75,000 bail for each count Holm faces. “That's probably the proper bail based on the schedule,” said Deputy District Attorney Jerry McBeth, who filed the case. Holm had sought release on his own recognizance. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 11. Holm will next be in court Aug. 3 for a scheduling hearing. The defendant, who is on paid administrative leave, has worked at the Sheriff's Department for four years, according to sheriff's Sgt. Erik Raney. The man's defense attorney, William Pardee, said his client denies any inappropriate relationship with the girl. Pardee said that Holm attempted to help to the accuser after arresting her on suspicion of a drug offense. The defense attorney alleges Holm then had a falling out with the girl's family, who threatened to report a sexual relationship between the deputy and the girl. Prosecutor McBeth mentioned at a previous hearing that law enforcement had DNA evidence of the alleged crimes. Holm, who is married with five young sons, was arrested July 7 at the Santa Maria Sheriff's Substation, Raney said. He had been assigned to the North County Operations Division and worked out of the Lompoc Valley and Santa Ynez Valley stations. The Sheriff's Department began its investigation of Holm in June, Raney said. The Santa Maria Times, following its established policy, does not identify alleged victims of sexual abuse. www.lompocrecord.com/articles/2006/07/14/news/news07.txt

He's a COP we can "trust" him, lets reduce his bond. Gee's what ignorant judge would do that?
So they have him in another county jail? No doubt at the tax payers expense. I say put his ass in jail where he was arrested, he shouldn't have any special privileges.

So Mr.Watcher, I would hope that you have some facts related to the case, other than what you read. I would be interested in what exactly you know about Jon Holm. Unless I am mistaken, "presumed innocent until proven guilty". Obviously you have never worked in law enforcement and have never worked or spent time in any type of detention facility. I have done both for over 30 years.
