A former Estill County sheriff's deputy was arrested Thursday and charged with sexually abusing a woman at her home and threatening a witness in the case. Kentucky State Police said they received a call on Tuesday from a woman who said Deputy Donald Hayes, 34, sexually abused her. The Herald-Leader typically does not identify victims of alleged sexual abuse. State police Trooper Chris Lanham would not elaborate on the charges against Hayes, except to say it involved sexual contact, but not rape. Lanham said he did not know whether Hayes of Irvine and the woman were acquaintances. Hayes has resigned from the sheriff's department. He was in the Estill County jail on charges of first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree official misconduct, tampering with physical evidence and intimidating a witness. www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky/16141792.htm
