Officer Donald Wayne Burnett 06.15.2006 - A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper from Boonville was arrested Friday by Columbia police on suspicion of stalking his former girlfriend. Officer Donald Wayne Burnett, 54, a sergeant with the highway patrol, was taken into custody at about 5:30 p.m. on a misdemeanor warrant for stalking after the woman, who works in Columbia, contacted police, Columbia police Capt. Brad Nelson said. Burnett was released from the Boone County Jail after posting a $25,000 bond. Capt. Tim Baysinger of the patrol declined to comment on the matter. "It’s a personnel matter," he said. "So I can’t say anything, one way or the other." Court records show that Julie Ann Metcalf, 43, of Boonville sought a full order of protection on May 27 in Boone County Court against Burnett. Associate Circuit Judge Chris Kelly refused to issue an ex parte order but scheduled a hearing for a full order of protection last week. Kelly later continued the hearing until Thursday. Records also show that Metcalf had sought a similar protective order from the court in February, but both parties dismissed the case. State statutes describe Class A misdemeanor stalking as when someone purposefully and repeatedly harasses or follows with the intent of harassing another person.
