02/21/2006 - MILWAUKEE - A South Milwaukee police officer accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl has pleaded guilty to seven felony counts.
Todd Berggren, 42, of Oak Creek, entered the pleas Monday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.
He had originally faced two counts each of first-degree sexual assault of a child, second-degree sexual assault of an unconscious victim and sexual exploitation of a child and 13 counts of possession of child pornography. But all but one of the child-pornography counts were dropped under a plea deal.
Berggren was suspended from his job as a police officer after he was arrested in November, and faces a maximum of more than 200 years in prison at his sentencing in March.
