01.18.2007 - PONTIAC -- A former Pontiac police officer was charged Tuesday with two counts of assault and battery, in connection with the alleged use of a Taser gun on two suspects during a drug raid.
Officer William Dawson Olsen was fired in October after allegations surfaced that two people were mistreated during an Oct. 12 police raid on a suspected drug house in Pontiac. His criminal investigation was subsequently handled by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
Olsen, an 11-year veteran, stood mute Tuesday before Pontiac 50th District Judge Cynthia Thomas Walker, who entered a plea of not guilty on each of the counts and released him on personal bond.
The alleged victims, one a teenager and the other an adult, told investigators they were stunned by a Taser while being questioned by Olsen.
Neither was seriously injured in the drug raid. Pontiac Police Chief Val Gross could not be reached for comment Tuesday but last year, when announcing the firing of Olsen and another officer for a separate unrelated misconduct , Gross stressed he wanted the public to know that the officers' actions were unacceptable and would not be tolerated by him.
