SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A Salem police officer resigned before pleading guilty to an official misconduct charge resulting from his relationship with the mother of a crime victim. Officer Robb McCracken was relieved of his duties and placed on paid administrative leave on Jan. 26. He entered the guilty plea Friday in Marion County Circuit Court after submitting his resignation to the Salem Police Department, according to police Chief Gerald Moore. McCracken, 42, had been a Salem Police officer for nearly seven years. He was charged with misconduct after the mother of a crime victim told her counselor about a relationship with McCracken that developed while he was investigating her daughter's case. The Oregon State Police were asked to investigate the misconduct allegations, and report to the Washington County district attorney's office to avoid any potential conflict of interest with the Marion County district attorney's office in Salem, Moore said. An internal investigation is also under way to determine if any department procedures were violated. www.oregonlive.com/newsflash/regional/index.ssf?/base/news-18/1171050566123220.xml&storylist=orlocal
