11.10.2006 - Freeland, Luzerne County: A Luzerne County police officer facing theft charges has turned himself into police. 31 year-old Officer Bryan Sullivan of Drifton walked into the Freeland Police station on Thursday with his lawyer. But he was not there to report for duty. He was there to be arrested on theft charges. Sullivan, who had been the Acting Police Chief for the department admits to stealing $2,000 from the Police Evidence Room over a period of 7 months. Pennsylvania State Police said he stole as much as $11,000 dollars. Now Freeland Mayor Tim Martin, who oversees the Police Department, has some tough decisions to make. Mayor Martin declared "We need to find out what we are going to do with the Police Department. We only have two officers here. They can cover some cases. Bryan had some cases of his own and I don’t want those cases to be thrown out of court." Sullivan’s arrest is the talk of Freeland and on Thursday large crowds gathered near the Police Station to watch the arrest and to talk about it. Freeland resident Albert Saccetti stated "People feel hurt. Those people we trust. If you can’t trust the people who uphold the law, who’s there to protect us on and off duty?" Sullivan is now free on his own recognizance. www.wyou.com/news/default.asp?mode=shownews&id=6349
