A senior Dallas police officer has been arrested on an accusation of driving while intoxicated.
Dallas Senior Corporal Douglas L. Washington, was arrested 7 p.m. Monday in the 1400 block of North Cockrell Hill Road in Desoto, said Janice Crowther, a spokeswoman for the Dallas Police Department. He was not on duty at the time and was driving his personal vehicle, she said.
Mr. Washington, an officer with the Dallas police since 1987, is assigned to the Northwest Patrol Division. He has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigation, the police department said.
Ms. Crowther said Mr. Washington had been previously disciplined by the department for conduct unbecoming an officer. The incident, which involved public intoxication, led to an internal investigation and a demotion from rank of sergeant, she said.
If he is convicted, he could face termination from the department, she said.
