01.12.2007 - STUART - An off-duty Jupiter police officer avoided a D-U-I arrest in Stuart after police determined they were too short-staffed to arrest him. Jupiter police officer Jeff Sprauer has been removed from the town's road patrol division and placed on administrative duty while his department investigates the incident. Stuart Police Chief Edward Morley says it's not a common practice for the department and the stop is being investigated. A police report says Sprauer was pulled over last month for drifting in and out of lanes. The Stuart officer who pulled Sprauer over reported smelling alcohol, but Sprauer denied drinking anything. A backup officer reported that Sprauer had bloodshot eyes, was swaying back and forth and had trouble reciting the alphabet. The report says the officers decided Sprauer was - quote- "too intoxicated to drive." After verifying that Sprauer was a Jupiter police officer, the Stuart officers cited him for not having a driver license and for weaving in and out of his traffic lane. Sprauer stayed in his car until someone arrived to give him a ride. www.tampabaylive.com/stories/2007/01/070112dui.shtml
