Two Kern County Sheriff's Department detention deputies were charged Wednesday with selling marijuana, along with other charges.
Detention Sgt. Donal Lundgren was charged with selling marijuana, possessing marijuana for sale and conspiring to commit a crime, as well as a misdemeanor count of possessing marijuana.
Detention Deputy Patrick Holloway was charged with selling marijuana, possessing marijuana for sale, conspiring to commit a crime and possessing a narcotic. He was also charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.
They will be arraigned Jan. 19.
The Kern County District Attorney's office also charged Anthony Thomas Gonzalez with possession of marijuana for sale, selling or furnishing marijuana, conspiracy and possession of a controlled substance.
He will be arraigned today.
Attempts to reach the defendants Thursday were unsuccessful.
Deputy District Attorney Craig Smith said Gonzalez, who is not a detention deputy, sold marijuana to Holloway.
Smith said the detention deputies did not sell drugs to inmates or other detention deputies, to his knowledge.
Detention Deputy Josh Bankston was charged in a separate case with felony possession of cocaine. Efforts to reach Bankston were unsuccessful.
His arraignment date is not yet known.
The detention deputies were arrested Dec. 15 on suspicion of possession of drugs.
The investigation, which began in November, focused on the personal use and sale of marijuana by employees within the department, the Kern County Sheriff's Department has said.
The drugs were seized at the homes and vehicles of the detention deputies, according to investigators. The three are on paid administrative leave, Sgt. Tyson Davis said.
