Officer Ernest Cecil A Metro Nashville Police officer is in trouble with the law Thursday, accused of using his badge to buy and sell cocaine on city streets. Metro Police Officer Ernest Cecil was taken into custody at the Hermitage Precinct shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday. Cecil, a Metro officer for 15 years, including seven years with the Special Investigations Unit, has been charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, one count of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute more than 500 kilograms of coke; more than 1,000 pounds, one count of robbery in violation of the so-called Hobbs Act and one count of using a gun while trafficking drugs. According to authorities, Cecil used fear and the threat of violence to get what he wanted. He allegedly protected drug dealers and conspired with his nephew to sell cocaine on the streets of Nashville, pocketing thousands and thousands of dollars. Cecil, 49, has been in the media spotlight before and in fact, had been on administrative desk duty in a decommissioned status since December 2004, when he came under investigation for wearing his pistol while drinking off-duty in a Second Avenue bar.
