12/08/2005 - A police officer has been charged with using a Taser on his partner during an argument over whether they should stop for a soft drink.
Ronald Dupuis, 32, was charged Wednesday with assault and could face up to three months in jail if convicted. The six-year veteran was fired after the Nov. 3 incident.
Dupuis and partner Prema Graham began arguing after Dupuis demanded she stop their car at a store so he could buy a soft drink, according to a police report.
The two then struggled over the steering wheel, and Dupuis hit her leg with his department-issued Taser, the report said. She was not seriously hurt.
Hamtramck police union lawyer Eugene Bolanowski said he expected Dupuis to hire a private lawyer.
Hamtramck is a city of 23,000 surrounded by Detroit.

04/04/2006 - A former Hamtramck Police officer has been acquitted of a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from an accusation that he wounded his partner with a Taser stun weapon last year.
A jury in Hamtramck's 31st District Court acquitted officer Ronald Dupuis, 32, of the charge on Friday.
Officer Dupuis was charged with striking his female partner, Prema Graham, in the leg with the weapon on Nov. 5 while they were on duty in a patrol car.
In the case, officer Dupuis allegedly demanded that Graham, who was driving the police car, stop for a soda. When she refused, Dupuis grabbed for the steering wheel before prodding her twice with the Taser as she warded him off with her free hand, police said.
He then recharged the Taser and drove it into Graham's right thigh, police reports said. She was hospitalized with minor injuries and has since returned to work.
Dupuis maintained that he fired the weapon by accident.
Hamtramck Police fired Dupuis after the incident.
