LAVERGNE, TENNESSEE – You saw the videeo first on Action News 5. It shows driver Stephanie Taylor on the ground in pain.
She was pulled over January 3rd by a former Lavergne Police Officer. The officer pulled her out of the car when she refused to sign a ticket.
Now, Taylor is fighting back and speaking out.
Taylor says she was just exercising her right to refuse to sign a ticket, when the situation spiraled out of control.
For the first time, she tells us why she thinks the officer reacted to her questions the way he did.
When we viewed the tape with Taylor, it was hard for her to watch.
“I was just completely blown away. Initially tears came to my eyes,” says Taylor.
Taylor was pulled over for speeding on her way from Middle Tennessee State University to her job in Nashville.
She asked to see the radar and when the officer wouldn’t show it to her, she refused to sign the ticket.
That’s when you see a Lavergne Police Officer yank her out of her car and throw her on the ground. She says the physicality of the arrest didn’t stop when she was put in the back of the cop car.
Taylor adds, “I couldn’t actually pick my feet up over the floor board to actually place my feet in, and he says I was attempting to kick him so he kicked my leg into the car.”
Taylor blames the officers reaction to gender discrimination, “I feel that he felt threatened by me as a somewhat competent young individual that just happened to be a woman.”
A woman who says even with all she’s been through, “I wouldn’t have changed a single thing that I did.”
Taylor says she’s not afraid to stand up for her rights in the future.
Taylor has hired an attorney but says she hasn’t decided if she’ll sue anyone over her treatment by the LaVergne officer.
