A Northfield Police officer has been arrested, charged with staging a stabbing at his house. Last week, Northfield officer David Reed claimed someone broke into his home in Barre Town, hit him across the head and stabbed him. He was off duty at the time. Thursday, the Vermont State Police said Reed confessed to making up the entire story, and that the wounds were self inflicted. No motive was given. Reed is charged with giving false information to a police officer. Reed is no longer a member of the Northfield Police Department. But his dismissal is unrelated to the case. Chief Jeff Shaw says Reed was going to be let go, because he had failed a physical requirements test the day before the stabbing. Reed was scheduled to retake that test the day the stabbing took place. www.wcax.com/Global/story.asp?S=6058043&nav=menu183_2
