11-30-06- NY- Nassau County Police have identified the man who shot and killed a woman before turning the gun on himself yesterday afternoon at a Hicksville plumbing store. Investigators say 48-year-old Craig Saboski walked into Botto Brothers Plumbing Supply store and shot 50-year-old Linda Erlichman three times as she tried to run away. CBS 2 has learned that Erlichman was Saboski's ex-girlfriend. "He continued to chase her towards the back door and after shooting her he turned the handgun on himself," Nassau County Police Det. Lt. Michael Fleming said. Police also revealed that Saboski, a Hyde Park resident, is a former New York police officer who joined the NYPD in 1982, only to be released just four years later. The department declined to specify a reason for his dismissal. Some officers believe the shooting may have been triggered by the couple's break-up and Erlichman's subsequent order of protection against Saboski. Court records show Saboski was arrested for stalking Erlichman in September, months after their break-up. He was due in court on that charge next week. Advocates for domestic violence victims say in most cases orders of protection are effective, but often it falls on the victim to protect themselves. wcbstv.com/local/local_story_334174223.html
