2006-12-13 By Dionne Waugh FORT WAYNE, INDIANA - A judge Tuesday set a March jury trial date for a Fort Wayne police officer accused of battering his wife and preventing her from calling 911. Clark "Dan" Tyler, 38, of the 5800 block of Chester Boulevard, was arrested Nov. 27 and charged with domestic battery and interference with the reporting of a crime. He has hired attorney Patrick Arata to represent him. Fort Wayne Police Chief Rusty York successfully petitioned the Board of Safety last week to suspend Tyler without pay pending the outcome of the case. Tyler is accused of grabbing his wife and pulling her onto the couple's bed the evening of Sept. 1 after an argument about Tyler's activities the previous day. She tried to call for help, but Tyler is accused of breaking his wife's cell phone and then throwing a cordless phone, court documents stated. She tried to get out of bed, but Tyler allegedly held her there. When she was able to get out of the bed, Tyler grabbed at her robe, tearing it, court records stated. His wife later told city police who investigated the case that she suffered pain from Tyler lying on her chest and to her wrists from being held. She also had bruises on her arm from being grabbed, court documents stated. Tyler has denied any wrongdoing. He was ordered not to have any contact with his wife when he was released from jail on bond, according to court records. www.fortwayne.com/mld/fortwayne/news/local/16228679.htm
