11.01.2006 - A sheriff's deputy from Broward County in Florida was sent to Illinois last month to arrest a man wanted on an aggravated assault charge. Instead, the deputy wound up in the DuPage County Jail accused of scratching and pushing his own sister. Officer Patrick M. Keegan, 25, of North Lauderdale, Fla., is charged with two counts of domestic battery in the Oct. 6 incident. Keegan "made contact of an insulting and provoking nature" with Lindsay A. Keegan, 24, according to court records. Authorities said he scratched her neck and "pushed her to the ground causing bruises and scratches on both her left and right knees." The Broward Sheriff's office sent Keegan to the Chicago area to pick up and bring back Joseph Anderson, 57, who was wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, spokesman Hugh Graf said. But the deputy has now been suspended from his job. Keegan was arrested at his mother's Naperville home. He and a fellow sheriff's deputy had been staying with her at the time of the 5 a.m. arrest, said Keegan's attorney, William Cherny. Cherny said Keegan would be vindicated at his Nov. 21 trial. www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/nearwest/chi-0611010325nov01,1,918643.story?coll=chi-newslocalnearwest-hed&ctrack=1&cset=true

11.29.2006 - Illinois prosecutors have dropped a domestic battery case against a Broward Sheriff's Office deputy who was arrested while in the Chicago area to pick up a man wanted for aggravated assault. Patrick Keegan, 25, of North Lauderdale, was accused of scratching and pushing his sister during an Oct. 6 incident at their mother's home in Naperville, Ill. He was charged with two counts of domestic battery. Prosecutors dropped the case when the deputy's sister, Lindsay A. Keegan, 24, didn't show up for a Nov. 21 trial, said Patrick Keegan's attorney, William D. Cherny, of St. Charles, Ill. Keegan, however, remains suspended with pay from the Sheriff's Office pending an internal affairs investigation, spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said. Keegan, a four-year veteran, has been suspended since Oct. 9. Keegan is eager to return to duty, Cherny said. "Hopefully, his department will put him back to whatever position he'd been working before, and he'll go back to doing good work for the county," Cherny said. "He's looking forward to being on the force." The Sheriff's Office sent Keegan to Illinois to pick up Joseph Anderson, 57, on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Instead, Anderson was arrested by someone elseOct. 15, nine days after the deputy landed in DuPage County Jail. Keegan and a fellow deputy had been staying with Keegan's mom at the time of the deputy's early-morning arrest. According to court records, Keegan "made contact of an insulting and provoking nature" with his sister. He scratched her neck and "pushed her to the ground causing bruises and scratches to both her left and right knees." Neither Keegan nor his sister could be reached for comment Tuesday. www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/broward/sfl-ckeegan29nov29,0,5277704.story?coll=sfla-news-broward
