03/11/2006 - A 14-year Milwaukee police officer arrested March 2 for two alleged domestic violence episodes has been charged with a felony and four misdemeanors, including one count for berating internal affairs investigators, according to a criminal complaint.
Alexis T. West, 46, is due in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing. He's been jailed since his arrest because it violated his probation from a January misdemeanor conviction for criminal damage to property.
The new complaint charges West with a felony count of criminal damage to property, three misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct - one while armed with a hammer - and misdemeanor criminal damage to property.
Accused of wielding hammer According to the complaint, West went on tirades March 1 and 2 at his home on W. Grantosa Drive, with the first night's events including him throwing a shoe at his wife and smashing appliances, furniture and a hanging picture with a hammer. Family members called police, who arrived after West left, and told them that he appeared drunk and accused his wife of having an affair with another man after looking at a phone bill.
The next afternoon, the complaint says, West hurled plates down a hallway at his home and broke "whatever he could get his hands on in the basement." He also cursed a police lieutenant "at least five times" after his arrest, the complaint says.
