February 24, 2007 BY SOPHIA CHANG NEW YORK, NEW YORK – An off-duty New York police officer was charged with driving while impaired after he struck another car Saturday morning in Staten Island, police said. Brian Fredrickson, 25, was driving a Chevy Impala north on Arthur Kill Road at 1:45 a.m. when he struck a Toyota Avalon going the other way, authorities said. Fredrickson and the Toyota’s driver, a 23-year-old man, were taken to Staten Island University Hospital, North Site, in stable condition, police said. Fredrickson was assigned to the 62nd Precinct in Brooklyn, and has been with the force for three years. It was unclear if Fredrickson’s Chevy was a police vehicle.
