02/17/2006 - FLORENCE, S.C. - A former Lake City police officer was sentenced to more than 13 years in federal prison after pleading guilty last year to conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.
Officer William Webb, 41, of Olanta was sentenced Thursday to 160 months in prison and five years' supervised release. He also must submit to drug treatment and testing directed by his probation officer.
Several people spoke on Webb's behalf at the sentencing, but he told U.S. District judge Terry Wooten that he was prepared for his punishment.
"I'm not here to make any excuses for my wrong," Webb said. "I'm here to accept that responsibility."
Webb was arrested last February as part of a federal and state investigation into corruption and drug deals in Florence and Williamsburg counties. He was a lieutenant with Lake City Police Department.
Investigators said Webb routinely took payoffs from drug dealers beginning in 1994 and sold cocaine from his patrol cruiser. He also would confiscate drugs from dealers and distribute them to other dealers to sell, prosecutor said.

To Officer William Webb,
You didn't do your job as you were hired to and you let the public down. You were just another criminal wearing a gun and a badge. There is only one thing I can say.
The prison is getting a new bitch and that bitch is you officer Webb.
