Girl, 10, charged in Pa. crack raid 04/22/2006 - SCRANTON, Pa. — A 10-year-old girl has been charged with evidence tampering after authorities say she tossed small bags of crack cocaine out of a window during a drug raid. As detectives raided a Scranton apartment Friday, they saw the girl's arm extend from a second-floor window and drop several bags of crack, police said. The girl, whose name was withheld because of her age, is in the custody of Lackawanna County Children and Youth Services. A woman at the home, Lashawna Bennett, 30, also was charged with drug possession, corruption of a minor, child endangerment and related crimes. Police said they confiscated more than $7,000 in crack cocaine during the raid. District Attorney Andy Jarbola said the girl had a "bad attitude" during police questioning. "What's so amazing about this investigation is how street-smart this 10-year-old child was," he said. "She knew what she was doing."

"She knew what she was doing." I'm sure that pissed the cops off! Imagine a 10 year old knowing her rights and using them against a police officer. To District Attorney Andy Jarbola, It's not "bad attitude," it's just that a 10 year old child put your officers in their place! Is that really what you and the cops are meaning by "street smarts," because someone specially a child is exercising their constitutional rights? That bothers you don't it? If more people exercised their rights, you might have to actually start working for your pay check.

So what your saying is that she was "excercising her rights" by throwing bags of crack out of the window? What right was she excercising?

So what your saying is that she was "excercising her rights" by throwing bags of crack out of the window? What right was she excercising? No what I was saying, a "bad attitude" during police questioning, means that the 10 yr old girl was probably exercising her rights by not answering questions the cops were asking her. She might have been telling them to go to hell and that she wanted a lawyer? It sounds like the girl was taught about the fifth and sixth amendments and she used them to protect herself. A cops one main weapon used on the people is intimidation. They usually get what they demand and nothing is more embarrassing for them, than a 10 year old knowing her constitutional rights and throwing it in the cops face. How she handled herself at the police station has no bearing on the alleged drugs or with a cop allegedly seeing someone's arm out the window. Sounds like she did the right thing and probably got away with a little more than anyone else would have. I would love to see the video of the cops questioning the little girl, it would probably be hilarious.
