12-6-2006- BRIDGETON — The boat ramp at Mary Elmer Lake in Bridgeton City Park is tucked away near the lake's southwestern edge, reached by a narrow drive lined with tall pines that dips down into a secluded cove. Two city police officers left a city resident from Mexico in this spot after they robbed and assaulted him on the night of Nov. 10, officials said, and where they later returned to try to cover up what happened. According to Cumb-erland County Prosecutor Ron Casella, the two officers — Patrolmen Carl Holliday, 29, of Millville, and Gregory Willis, 26, of Shiloh — further breached their oath to uphold the law when they failed to arrest a suspected drunken driver who turned out to be the brother of another city police officer. Both men were arrested Friday and each was charged with two counts of official misconduct, one in connection with the alleged assault and the other connected to the failed arrest. Willis, who also was charged with evidence tampering, submitted his resignation the same day. Holliday, who was further charged with robbery, assault, kidnapping, conspiracy, and witness and evidence tampering, spent the night in Cumberland County Jail before posting a $400,000 bond on Saturday. Holliday's attorney, Charles Sciarra of Clifton, said Tuesday that his client denies any wrongdoing and will fight the charges. www.pressofatlanticcity.com/news/story/6993933p-6854282c.html
