A friend of mine was on her way to work 3 yrs. ago. An off duty cop on his way to work, was driving 113 mph. He had the right of way, my friend, a single mom of 2, had a stop sign. She stopped, went forward, and he hit her. He died at the scene, she was airlifted to a hospital, and almost died from the injuries.
She recieved a get-well card in the ER that had a note that said, "Get well soon so you can go to jail." The cop had been a dispatch for the Sheriff's dept, and was friends with the investigators. She was threatened with being charged with vehicular manslaughter!
I just went to get a copy of the Sheriff's accident report and there were missing "whited-out" parts that were on the original accident report that I have. The parts that were whited out, were parts they lied about the accident and were challenged on. The original one had wrong times, quotes from my friend that were blatant lies.
My question is this: Is it police misconduct to alter an accident investigation report?
My friend pled guilty to going thru a stop sign due to the DA threats of indicting her for vehicular manslaughter, even though she did stop. (She's been called a cop-killer) She had to plead guilty to DUI, as she had 9 nanograms of THC in her system. Illinois is a no-tolerance state.
The cops made her out to be a drug using, traffic violator that killed a cop because of it. In reality, he wasn't wearing a seat belt, he was driving 113 mph, 87 mph at impact in .4 of a mile (black box readout).
here were also no skid marks noted on the accident report even though concerned friends measured skid marks of 240 feet from the crest of the hill to the intersection where the accident occured. I don't understand how a car can slow from 113 mph to 87 mph without braking in 4/10 of a mile and on an incline.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. they have set sentencing for her in April. She married my son a month ago, they are expecting a child in May.
