February 9, 2007 BY BEN SCHMITT Brownstown Police today identified the Detroit Police officer involved in an apparent murder-suicide Thursday night as 38-year-old Brian Vieau. Vieau shot himself and his 40-year-old estranged wife, Tracy Vieau, at 7:13 p.m. in their home while their two sons watched cartoons in an upstairs bedroom, police said. The children were unharmed and placed with relatives, said Brownstown Police Chief Daniel Grant. Vieau had been distraught over his impending divorce and was at home on the 28000 block of Red Cedar, waiting for his wife to pick up the boys so he could go to work, Grant said. “Once she entered the residence, he fired four shots at her with a .40 caliber pistol striking her three times when she collapsed at the front door,” Grant said. “He then made a 911 call to police and prior to their arrival he turned the gun upon himself.”Officers found Brian Vieau on the living room floor and his wife against the home’s front door. Vieau is the second Detroit Police officer to commit suicide in less than a month. Tabitha McCree, 37, shot and killed herself on a southwest Detroit street on Jan. 19.www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070209/NEWS02/70209026/0/SPORTS05
