Officers of Lakewood police department have been harassing and threatening 2 of my friends and myself for almost three years now. We have been followed, our freedom threatened, our lives threatened, my home has been invaded, my body and home searched with no warrant or cause, false charges have been brought against 1 of my friends, they killed my pet, private property has been damaged while other things have been stolen, and used illegal audio transmitters to attempt to construct a false tape to use as evidence against the friend they have charged with serious crimes.
We have attempted to file complaints but were consistently referred to the same man who outright said that he didn't believe us, and said we must be crazy, despite the fact that we offered him concrete evidence of some of the crimes that had been committed against us. I have seen approximately 25 different officers that have been doing those things to us and believe that more are involved.
The last time I went out after dark alone, a car had been parked in an ally and shot out at me. It came close enough to hitting me that I felt the displaced air from it. The time before that an officer pulled up behind me, ordering my to stop. After telling me several times to avoid a friend I was helping (the man facing false charges) he informed me that young women disappear pretty often, and aren't usually heard from again.
My home was repeatedly searched without reason. My room-mate and I were held at gunpoint several times while 4-8 officers searched it. We weren't allowed to watch what they were doing in the other rooms. We asked and demanded that they leave, but they usually laughed or told us to shut up. Two men always stay with us in the living room while everyone else searched the apartment. The last time they invaded our apartment, they stayed about 3-4 hours, which was their usual time. One of them had a statement typed up and demanded that I sign it. It stated that my friend was guilty of several sexual offenses, that I had witnessed him violate children, and dogs. The reason I hadn't reported these awful things was that I was frightened for my life, the statement said. That only covered the first of three pages. I was sickened by it, and didn't read any more of it before telling them where they could shove those disgusting sheets of paper. The leading macho man put his gun to the side of my head and told me to sign it. I refused then he went into my bedroom and got my pet rat out of her cage, carrying her to the door mat. I was forced to stay still when he put her down then stomped her. She screamed, but died quickly. He said I'd be next unless I got smart, the they left. The same group had previously stolen money and property from me and my friends, and broke my computer.
My friend hired a private investigator that used to work for the justice department and the original false charges were dropped, then he was charged with another crime. Those charges were also dropped... There has been three charges dropped before arraignment so far but now they are switching to inconsistent traffic violations.
We hired a good lawyer who was eager to take the case, and the harassment stopped for a brief time. But, then our lawyer claimed he had a heart attack and couldn't handle our case. He was still practicing law several months later, though. The manager of my apartment complex at the time had let the police inside many times, then she left in a hurry. We learned that one of the men involved was a former Denver officer, and was now a private investigator. At the times he entered my home, he showed a badge, saying he was the police. This man was hired to help my friend after this.... Then we learned what was going on and hired the REAL private investigator. He retrieved a tape that the other PI claimed was his interview with my room-mate and me. He interviewed someone that my friend supposedly victimized, and found out that the police had coerced her into making false allegations. We were told to write a complaint to the local FBI, public corruptions unit after the police refused to cooperate with the investigator.
We did so, and spoke with someone on the phone. We were told that this wasn't their jurisdiction. He said that our complaint would stay on record; it was"a matter of public record." That night I was surrounded by about 10 officers that kept their hands on their guns, though they didn't pull them that time. One of them made a point of reciting our complaint to me- word for word. He seemed to be having fun for a while, then started threatening me. After a few more minutes, he made a point of saying several things that my almost convict friend and I said on the phone. I called the FBI and they said they wouldn't have sent the complaint to the police department, however it was misplaced. Over a year later not only do they not have ,but they have said that they never spoke to us, though they also sent a letter to the Governor ,who we tried to get help from, that they had spoke to us on the phone, but never received a complaint. The FBI won't have an agent talk to you without a report. You speak with someone who does an intake, then if it sounds serious, they tell you to send a written report in and an agent will call you.
We sent a copy of the false tape to a different FBI office and they called back asking about the tape. They said it was clearly a fake; the proximity between the subject was off, their was tremendous voice distortion, and something about the audio signature, but I don't recall exactly what. We were excited that someone was finally interested, and sounded like they might help us. Then they found out that we were nobody... Just poor civilians... We have called many people and places to get help, but they all say that it's horrible, but not their jurisdiction, so get a lawyer. Two lawyers have already ran out on us and we can't afford to hire another. We have even been referred to Homeland Security, but they decided it's not their jurisdiction either. We have gone to the District attorney who declined to take action, and sign a waiver saying they weren't interested and waived their right to jurisdiction. We were told that because of that, anyone that wanted to- local or out of state- could pursue this. But no one willing.
We have many phone records stating that our phone lines were constantly being interfered with and repair trucks were sent out frequently and never finding the source of the problem. After checking everything he could think of, one repairman asked what I thought was causing the problems. He said he had never seen such a thing. He had replaced all the wiring in my apartment, and the main box for the apartment building, and checked all the boxes on nearby telephone poles, and he saw me hooking up a brand new phone and cord. Our phone lines were being cut into, people (police) talking to us, other times refusing to allow our lines to connect, or not ringing, but the answering machines would pick up, constant echos, hissing, pops, or whirring, sometimes a large combination of those things. Several times the phones would disconnect, or ring oddly. We finally convinced the phone company to monitor our lines, though it usually has to be ordered by the police. Soon as our lines were being monitored all that stopped. They took the monitors off without our knowledge, and it started again. We called them back and asked if they had the evidence of who was responsible, but had to explain tat it had started again. They admitted that the monitors had been taken off a few days prior to that, and put them on again.
We have been going through this for so long that it is beginning to seem normal. One lawyer I spoke to told me I was crazy if I thought he'd believe what I told him, that stuff only happened in B grade horror movies.
Tomorrow we go to court yet again, with the benefit of an attorney, since you aren't appointed one for traffic violations... Only it wasn't really a traffic stop. We were pulled over after contacting another FBI branch, And the officer told us not to be talking to the feds. Then he wrote out a stupid ticket, which has been changed since then. On the plus side of it , due to some evidence we've collected, the Department of Justice is getting interested. They aren't investigating yet, but they are taking a look at it.
We've got the fake tape, many conflicting legal documents, a couple tapes from interviewing the alleged victim and witnesses, and such. I used to believe in the legal system, but it gets harder and harder with all this garbage going on. It seems that if we got these ...people off the street that there would be a lot less crime. They ARE the criminals.
I realize intellectually that isn't really true, but part of me still feels that way. The police are usually the "good guys" but its difficult to see that when they are always making you the victim and no one wants to help you. It's hard to get people to listen to you when you try to explain. If they do listen, they not only don't believe you, they don't WANT to believe you. Such horrible things can't happen in the USA- they don't happen here. So. we must be crazy or trying to get attention. Like it or not, when its you against the police, 99.9% of the time, everyone is going to believe the police officer.
Well, wish us luck.
