01.20.2007 - SILVER CITY — A 20-year-old Santa Clara police officer was arrested by a Grant County Sheriff's deputy Wednesday on charges of battery. Now the Santa Clara police chief is speaking out against the action, saying his officer was arrested before the investigation was complete, by a deputy not involved in the case. In a written statement Thursday, Chief Paul Jasso called the arrest of Officer Abednego Castillo a "cheap shot" and an attempt to "undermine the officers" of his agency by a deputy with a grudge against his department. The incident began Jan. 12, when Santa Clara police were called to investigate an alleged domestic dispute involving Castillo and his 17-year-old girlfriend. According to Jasso, his officers investigated the incident and collected evidence in the case, which was then turned over to the 6th Judicial District Attorney's office on Tuesday. He said his officers contacted the district attorney on Friday night and arranged that the DA's office take over the case. Deputy District Attorney George Zsoka said the office received the case Tuesday and handed it over for investigation to the Grant County Sheriff's Department. In the meantime, however, Castillo was arrested by a sheriff's. www.lcsun-news.com/news/ci_5041121

A police chiefs and police officers sort of remind me of a mafia family. They stick with each other right to the very end.

That's according to Deputy District Attorney George Zsoka who said a domestic violence investigation involving Patrolman Abednego Castillo and his 17-year-old girlfriend is ongoing. Zsoka said a Grant County officer mistakenly filed the charges before they should have been filed. Grant County sheriff's Captain Joe Sublasky said that one of his deputies arrested Castillo last week. Zsoka said charges against Castillo were dismissed Thursday. www.krqe.com/expanded.asp?RECORD_KEY%5BNews%5D=ID&ID%5BNews%5D=19367
