01.17.2007 - PLANTATION An off-duty Hollywood police officer has been charged with threatening a family with a gun in an act of road rage, authorities said. Juan Calle told police that officer Michael McCarty cut off his van and later pointed a gun at Calle's family on Sept. 19. McCarty, 49, was charged Wednesday with five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent, Broward Sheriff's Office spokesman Jim Leljedal said. McCarty, a member of the police force since 1989, was taken to Broward County jail Wednesday and bonded out later that day. He has been placed on administrative leave with pay. Alberto Milian, an attorney for McCarty, said his client is innocent of the charges. "Once all the evidence is presented, it will be clear my client did nothing wrong," Milian said. cbs4.com/topstories/local_story_018002947.html
