BATTLE CREEK - Two Battle Creek police officers are off the force - one of them for good - after an internal investigation determined they used excessive force in a recent traffic stop. To a crowd of media, city officials and citizens, Chief David Headings shared the findings of an investigation into an incident he calls "disturbing." At 3:50 a.m. on Dec. 16, Officer Andrew Olsen pulled over Dujuan Rose on 22nd Avenue and Territorial Road for a loud muffler. The cruiser video camera shows Olsen asking Rose to get out of the car. Rose gets out of the car. Olsen commands him to put his hands up, but within seconds, takes Rose to the ground forcefully. Almost immediately, Olsen's partner, Officer Ryan LaPratt, is seen kicking Rose while he's on the ground. Olsen has been suspended without pay and put on probation for five years. LaPratt was fired. Chief Headings hopes this sends a message to the community, that police brutality will not be tolerated. "It doesn't just disturb me, it disturbs all the men and women in the department," Headings said, "and in no way reflects on the behavior of the rest of the department." The Michigan State Police is also conducting an investigation and will determine if any criminal charges should be filed. See video: www.woodtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=5872379&nav=0Rce
