PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- A deputy will not face criminal charges for accidentally shooting a man with her gun instead of her Taser, the Kitsap County sheriff's office said Friday.
Sheriff Steve Boyer said he received word that the state attorney general's office had declined to file charges against Deputy Tiffany Dobbins. Dobbins shot the mentally distraught man in the leg last June 22 after he refused to climb down from a tree.
"The review shows, clearly, that it was a mistake; the deputy had no intent to shoot the victim with a firearm," Boyer said.
Dobbins has been reassigned to administrative work. The sheriff's office will now conduct an internal investigation of the incident, Boyer said.
